KITWE PUPILS PROTEST

According to ZNBC,
Dozens of pupils at Jireh Academy in Kitwe’s Kwacha East area staged a peaceful protest over the subdivision of their school’s playground to new developers.
The pupils, who carried placards calling on authorities to intervene, complained that they now have nowhere to do practicals for Physical Education.
One of the protesting pupils Mapalo Chipoya said authorities must help the pupils.
Another pupil Precious Nakena wondered why the area Councillor allowed the playground to be subdivided for marketeers.
But Bulangililo Ward Councillor Charles Mutale has claimed that the school playground was legally approved by the Kitwe City Council to allocate 18 plots to Marketeers who were displaced from Chisokone market.
Mr Mutale said pupils from Jireh Academy will now have to walk a Kilometre to Changanamai Grounds to practice Physical Education.
But the Kitwe City Council has distanced itself from the subdivision of the playground at Jireh Academy.
Council Assistant Public Relations Manager Beauty Undi has told ZNBC News that council records do not show the approval of the subdivision of the said land.
Ms Undi disclosed that the only place were the Kitwe City Council is relocating Marketeers from Chisokone market is East of Kwacha and not Kapoto.
Jireh Academy is a private school which is located in the densely populated area called Kapoto.
The school has 500 enrolled pupils from baby class to Grade seven.
