KAWANA URGES MEDIA TO UPHOLD ETHICS AHEAD OF ELECTIONS
Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana has called on media institutions to strictly adhere to ethical standards, especially during this election period.
Speaking during a courtesy call on the Northern Provincial Administration, Mr. Kawana warned against the circulation of alarming and divisive information, emphasizing the media’s responsibility to provide accurate and factual reporting.
He assured stakeholders that no media house will be shut down, provided it operates within its legal and professional mandate.
Meanwhile, Independent Broadcasting Authority Director General Webster Malido said the Authority will continue ensuring compliance within the media industry.
He noted that their visit to Northern Province aims to better understand the region’s media landscape.
And Kasama District Commissioner Annie Paul, representing Acting Northern Province Permanent Secretary Beauty Undi-Phiri, stressed the importance of professionalism, stating that the media plays a critical role in disseminating accurate information and highlighting government development programmes.
