IBA Commends Teacher’s Radio Innovation and Urges Legalization
The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has praised Billy Mutonga, a Computer Science teacher from Mwinilunga, for creating a prototype radio station using repurposed materials.
According to Corporate Communications Director Katendi Wandi, the project is a testament to local creativity and highlights Mutonga’s dedication to leveraging technology for community education and engagement.
While the setup is not yet a licensed broadcasting station, Ms. Wandi confirmed that the IBA is closely monitoring its development due to its promising potential.
In a statement to ICU TV, Ms. Wandi notes that the Authority has already initiated discussions with the teacher, advising him to collaborate with appropriate regulatory agencies to ensure the project is brought into legal compliance.
Ms. Wandi also issued a reminder that broadcasting without proper authorization is a legal violation, and she urges innovators to adhere to the licensing requirements outlined in the IBA Act.
She emphasized that the IBA is committed to supporting technological innovation, provided it aligns with regulatory standards and serves the public interest.
