Huawei, Government Commit To Cultivating More Ict Talents Through Seeds For The Future

Five outstanding technology students from various universities across Zambia have today departed for China to participate in Huawei’s prestigious global Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, Seeds for the Future.
The initiative offers an intensive one-week experience focused on advanced technology training and cultural exchange.
Although the programme was first introduced in 2008 in Thailand, Seeds for the Future was extended to Zambia in 2015. Since then, over 100 Zambian students have benefited from the initiative and visited China under Huawei’s sponsorship.
The programme underscores Huawei’s commitment to fostering innovation, bridging the digital divide, and supporting a more connected and inclusive digital future.
As Huawei’s longest-running CSR initiative, Seeds for the Future aims to nurture ICT talent, promote knowledge transfer, and encourage global collaboration through immersive learning in areas such as 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Cloud Computing.
To date, it has benefited over 12,000 students across more than 137 countries, in partnership with over 500 universities worldwide.
During a courtesy call at the Ministry of Technology and Science, the students met with the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Brilliant Habeenzu, who commended Huawei for its continued investment in Zambia’s human capital development.
Dr. Habeenzu acknowledged the role of such initiatives in empowering young people through innovation and technology, and noted their potential to help optimise key sectors such as agriculture and mining.
He encourages the students to make the most of the opportunity by acquiring knowledge and skills that could be used to develop innovative solutions for national benefit.
Dr. Habeenzu also highlighted the importance of representing the country with pride and professionalism, adding that the programme would enhance their leadership capabilities, technical expertise, and social responsibility.
Representing the group, participant Samukhele Ngoma conveyed appreciation to both the Zambian Government and Huawei for facilitating the opportunity to gain international exposure and contribute to Zambia’s digital transformation.
Meanwhile, Huawei Public Relations Manager Louis Mwape reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Zambia’s vision of becoming a prosperous middle-income country by 2030.
“Students need to be trained and equipped with modern ICT skills and tools, because digital transformation is key to attaining Zambia’s 2030 vision,” Mr. Mwape said.
Mr Mwape also praised the government for its continued commitment and support in encouraging and inspiring young talent through the Seeds for the Future partnership.
