Hichilema urges preservation of history at samu lya moomba ceremony

President Hichilema said the ceremony holds historical significance, noting that the site served as a key resource mobilisation centre during Zambia’s struggle for independence before 1964. He also commended the participation of more than 70 Royal Highnesses from across the country, saying traditional ceremonies are important in promoting national unity and collective identity.

The Head of State further urged local farmers to reserve part of their maize for household consumption to strengthen food security.

The ceremony, held under the theme “Promoting National Growth Through Love, Peace and Value Addition to Our Local Resources,” focused on agriculture, food security and local innovation.

The event was also enhanced by performances from the Zambia Air Force-sponsored Air Power Cultural Dance Troupe, led by Lieutenant Colonel Betty Mweenge.

The troupe paid a courtesy call on Chief Choongo upon arrival and delivered a goodwill message from Zambia Air Force Commander Lieutenant General Oscar Msitu Nyoni.

Chief Choongo commended the Zambia Air Force for its continued support to the ceremony and encouraged the institution to continue availing the cultural dance troupe for traditional events.
