Gwi-zambia Welcomes International Delegates At The Gala Dinner For The 35th Triennial Assembly And Conference

Lusaka, Zambia – September 10, 2025
In a night marked by elegance, cultural warmth, and global sisterhood, Graduate Women Zambia (GWI-Zambia) hosted a spectacular Welcome Gala Dinner at Mpoto Yatu to officially receive international delegates attending the 35th Triennial General Assembly and Conference of Graduate Women International (GWI).
The event brought together influential women leaders, academics, activists, and development practitioners from around the world, setting the tone for what promises to be a transformative week of dialogue and collaboration in Lusaka.
This year’s Triennial Conference is being held under the theme: "Breaking Barriers: Education for Sustainable and Inclusive Development". It provides a critical platform for advocates of gender equality and education to exchange ideas, review global progress, and chart the path forward for women and girls worldwide.
Speaking at the gala, Ms. Annie Musonda, President of GWI-Zambia, expressed her pride in Zambia hosting such a monumental event. “This gathering reaffirms Zambia’s commitment to empowering women and girls through education. We are honored to welcome our sisters from around the globe as we strengthen networks that foster equity and progress.”
The evening was filled with vibrant cultural performances, traditional cuisine, and heartfelt speeches that celebrated the resilience and brilliance of women. It also served as an opportunity to showcase Zambia’s hospitality, its commitment to international cooperation, and the role of Zambian women in leading change.
Among the notable attendees were representatives from the Graduate Women International headquarters, delegates from over 40 countries, local civil society organizations, and partners including the Zambia Research and Development Centre (ZRDC) and Information and Communications University (ICU).
ZRDC, a key partner for this year’s conference, reaffirmed its mission of fostering innovation and capacity building for national development, particularly through empowering women and promoting inclusive education frameworks. The collaboration between ZRDC and GWI-Zambia has opened new avenues for long-term partnerships in research, youth engagement, and gender-focused policy development.
The Welcome Gala Dinner not only celebrated the arrival of international guests but also highlighted Zambia’s role in the global movement toward achieving gender equality and education for all.
As the conference proceeds over the next few days, the focus will shift to plenary sessions, thematic workshops, and networking engagements aimed at generating actionable solutions to the challenges facing women and girls in education, leadership, and development.
