GOVERNMENT SPEAKS ON ELECTION INTEGRITY.

Government has assured that Zambian’s 2026 general election will be conducted in a free, fair and peaceful environment. Information and media Minister Cornelius Mweetwa says President Hakainde Hichilema is committed to ensuring that the will of the people prevails, warning that any attempts to undermine the credibility of the electoral process will face legal consequences.

Speaking in Lusaka when he met a delegation from the African Public Relations Association (APRA), Mr. Mweetwa also called on communication professionals to take an active role in curbing misinformation by sharing accurate and verified information. He emphasized the importance of responsible communication in safeguarding public trust ahead of the elections.

Mr. Mweetwa further revealed that President Hichilema has accepted an invitation to deliver a keynote address at the 2026 APRA conference in Nigeria, highlighting the government’s recognition of the media as a key partner in governance. Meanwhile, APRA President Arik Karani and Nigerian institute of Public Relations President Ike Neliaku urged public relations professionals to remain responsible and uphold ethical standards, especially in the current global climate.
