MWAMBA PENI SEEKS IMMEDIATE RELEASE FROM POLICE CUSTODY
Former Permanent Secretary for Special Duties Mwamba Peni has asked the High Court to order his immediate release from police custody, arguing that his continued detention is unlawful.
Peni has sued Attorney General Mulilo Kabesha, seeking a writ of habeas corpus. He says he was arrested on August 20, 2026, over a GRZ Mitsubishi Pajero, registration number BAP 9646, which he says was officially assigned to him while he was a civil servant, said Peni.
He says he was later charged with conversion not amounting to theft and secured two sureties for police bond, but officers have failed to process his release despite follow-ups by his lawyers.
