GOVERNMENT COMMENCES PHASE TWO OF MAPATIZYA ROAD REHABILITATION

GOVERNMENT COMMENCES PHASE TWO OF MAPATIZYA ROAD REHABILITATION
The Government of the Republic of Zambia, through Zimba Town Council, has commenced Phase Two of the Mapatizya Road rehabilitation project. This new phase, which officially began on June 14, 2025, covers the stretch from Kapaulu to Kabanga.
Zimba Council Public relations officer Mastone Monze revealed that up to date, 35 kilometers of road have been successfully rehabilitated under Phase One, starting from the Chuundwe turn-off (proposed Ackson Sejani Road) along the Great North Road (Lusaka–Livingstone Road) through to Kapaulu.
The road works have been undertaken using equipment procured under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF). This equipment has now been mobilized to commence works on the new stretch from Kapaulu to Kabanga.
He further says Phase One was initially scheduled to cover 48 kilometers, only 35 kilometers were completed to allow for the timely launch of Phase Two.
This adjustment follows strong appeals from the local community, particularly farmers, who requested that works extend toward Kabanga to ease the transportation of agricultural produce to markets.
He adds that the remaining 13 kilometers of Phase One will be completed after the conclusion of Phase Two.
Zimba Town Council also wishes to inform the public that adequate grader blades have been procured to ensure that road works continue uninterrupted and meet the expected standards.
The Government remains steadfast in its commitment to improving rural road infrastructure in Mapatizya Constituency through the ongoing implementation of the 2025 CDF. The rehabilitation of key feeder roads is a top priority to enhance accessibility, stimulate local economic development, and improve service delivery.
In a related development, borehole drilling has commenced under the same CDF programme at Luyaba Mothers’ Shelter, Simalundu Secondary School, and Sikalaye Maternity Annex. These projects have been awarded to local contractors, in line with the Government’s policy to empower citizens and promote local economic growth.
Zimba Town Council reaffirms its unwavering commitment to delivering quality infrastructure and responsive services that address the needs and aspirations of the people of Mapatizya Constituency.
