First-Ever Police Station Commissioned in Bweengwa

Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Jack Mwiimbu officiated the commissioning ceremony of the K6 million facility, which includes three staff houses, an ablution block, water and electricity connections, and office furniture.

Speaking during the event, Mr. Mwiimbu said the police station will enhance security in Bweengwa, which has a population of over 73,400 people.

“For decades, the absence of a police station here has allowed criminal elements to operate with impunity,” he said. “This development is long overdue and vital for protecting the lives and livelihoods of our citizens, especially small-scale farmers.”

The minister thanked Chief Hamusonde and other traditional leaders for donating the land for the project and commended the community for their patience.

He urged residents to work with the police by reporting crimes and protecting the facility from vandalism. Mr. Mwiimbu also warned that damaging public infrastructure only promotes lawlessness and hinders development.

To the police officers, he emphasized the importance of integrity, professionalism, and discipline, and encouraged traditional leaders to support fair and independent justice.
