Kasempa council expected to increase its revenue
Kasempa, October, 20- Kasempa district council has completed the extension and rehabilitation of a lodge at a cost of over eight hundred thousand kwacha from its equalization fund.
Kasempa District Council Secretary Dewin Kaoma said the council has no infrastructure that can help in generation of revenues hence the initiative to invest in construction of a lodge.
The council lodge which has not been in use in the recent past years due to its dilapidated state has since received a face lift bringing it to a modern standard with modern fittings.
Speaking during an inspection of the building, Kaoma expressed satisfaction with works done on the building that was first constructed in 1949.
Mr Kaoma said the council has shown commitments towards the construction of the lodge because its intention is to improve the revenue base for the local authority.
He mentioned that building had two slots which consisted renovation of the old structure and construction of the new wing which consists of a laundry room, reception and adding the total number of rooms to 24.
Mr Kaoma called for other councils to manage their resources prudently so as improve the revenue base and develop their districts.
He also added that the council will put up stringent measures to ensure resources derived from such activities are monitored to avoid misappropriation of funds
“We have really sacrificed and committed ourselves to put up such a building because we were just saving a 20 percent from the local government equalization fund and hence stringent measure will be put in place to ensure funds collected from this project will be used to develop the district,” he assured.
And WBC the company awarded to construct the council lodge said his company has not compromised with the use of materials but followed government guidelines when sourcing for materials.
He said all the works have been completed and ready to be handed over to the council within this week.
