E-voucher not come to kill cooperatives
A senior government official in the ministry of agriculture says the coming of E-voucher system in the implementation of the Farmer Input support program (FISP) has not come to eliminate cooperatives.
Kasempa district agricultural coordinator Joseph Masuwa disclosed in an interview that the coming of the E-voucher system is not meant to kill cooperatives.
Mr. Masuwa said that he is saddened to here that cooperator have started demanding for there share capital with a view of withdrawing from cooperatives while others have refused to renew their membership.
He has since cautioned farmers who have so far withdrawn their share capital to take it back to the cooperative as they risk not benefiting from the FISP program.
He further added that the FISP program demands that for one to benefit he or she must be a member of a primary cooperative or a farmer organization such as women clubs and or an Information center.
And speaking in a separate intervie Kasempa district cooperative inspector Moses Lwaisha has expressed disappointment at the speculations that the cooperative movement has come to an end due to the coming of the E- voucher system.
Mr. Lwaisha said that the speculation that E-voucher has come to get rid off cooperatives is indeed an eye opener and that it send a signal to him that cooperatives are not sustainable.
He has since called on cooperatives that feel they can not continue to exist to surrender their certificates to his office so he can facilitate the deregistration process.
