CABINET APPROVES 24-HOUR OPERATING HOURS FOR BUSINESSES, MARKETS, BUS STATIONS.
Cabinet has approved a policy shift allowing business houses, markets, and bus stations to operate on a 24-hour basis, Chief Government Spokesperson Hon. Cornelius Mweetwa has announced.
Speaking during a media briefing this morning, Mr. Mweetwa, who also serves as Minister of Information and Media, said the decision is aimed at boosting economic productivity, promoting a 24-hour economy, and creating more employment opportunities, especially for young people. He confirmed that Cabinet has endorsed the extension of operating hours across the three sectors.
The move is expected to stimulate economic activity by enabling businesses and local suppliers to extend their trading hours and increase revenue potential. It also seeks to provide greater convenience for consumers while improving efficiency in transportation services at bus stations.
Government has assured the public that adequate security measures will be put in place to safeguard both workers and customers under the new system, following consultations among relevant ministries. The decision forms part of a broader strategy to drive industrial growth and enhance the ease of doing business in Zambia.
