ANNIE MONTA SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS IMPRISONMENT OVER THE MURDER OF HER HUSBAND, CHILE ONE

The Kitwe High Court has sentenced 33 year old Annie Monta to 20 years of simple imprisonment for the murder of her husband, Richard Mbulu, widely known as Chile One.

In a detailed 111-page judgment delivered on Friday, High Court Judge Evaristo Pengele found Monta guilty of murder, ruling that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. The court heard that the incident occurred on April 30, 2022, following a heated domestic dispute fueled by accusations of infidelity.

According to testimony presented during the trial, the fatal confrontation was sparked by a phone call Monta discovered on her husband's phone from a woman saved under the name “wife.” The discovery led to a violent argument between the couple, ultimately resulting in Mbulu’s death.

In his ruling, Justice Pengele emphasized that the evidence clearly indicated Monta’s intent and actions, holding her accountable for the fatal outcome of the domestic altercation.

The sentencing has brought an end to a case that drew national attention, particularly due to the popularity of the victim in Zambia’s Business scene.
