52 Kitwe Grade 9 pupils apprehended

52 grade 9 pupils from various schools in Kitwe on the Copperbelt have been apprehended by the police following a mini protest demanding education authorities to resolve issues surrounding the suspension of grades 7, 9 and 12 examinations.
Particulars of the office are that pupils from 5 schools led by Grace Chilombo 18 years of house number 374 kwacha and grade 9 pupil at kwacha primary school, today 29th October, 2018 around 09:00hrs while acting together with 2 other pupils led 49 other pupils in staging a mini protest by marching to Zambia National Broadcasting Cooperation Kitwe studios air out their grievances.
Copperbelt Province Police commissioner Charity Katanga confirmed the development on the telephone interview in Ndola today. “We have received a report that 52 pupils in Kitwe were this morning 29th October, apprehended by the police when they acted in the manner likely to disturb the peace”, said Ms. Katanga. “6 boys and a girl apprehended are from Kwacha Primary school, while 21 girls and 6 boys are from Mutende primary School. Others are: 8 girls and 2 boys from Kamitondo primary, 14 girls and 10 boys from Kawama and 3 girls from Buseko primary school”. Ms. Katanga said the police have since charged the 52 pupils with Conduct likely to breach the peace and are currently detained at riverside police station.
Mean while Kitwe District Education Board Secretary Allan Kaoma has regretted the incidence by the pupils. Mr. Kaoma has since appealed to all pupils in Kitwe district to desist from engaging in such vices. He also said that pupils should wait patiently for the outcome from the minister of general education as he is expected to issue a statement on the status of the examinations.
And Minister of General Education David Mabumba has announced the lifting of the suspension of the grades 7, 9 and 12 examinations. Mr. Mabumba announced this during the press briefing in Lusaka today.
