2025 Central Province JETS Fair Kicks Off in Kabwe with Celebration of STEM Excellence

Kabwe, Zambia – June 25, 2025
The 2025 Central Province Junior Engineers, Technicians, and Scientists (JETS) Fair officially opened today at Broadway Secondary School in Kabwe, marking another milestone in Zambia’s commitment to fostering scientific curiosity and innovation among youth.
Held under the national theme “Promoting Innovation, Engineering, and Entrepreneurship: Accelerating STEM Growth and Development,” the regional fair has attracted students, educators, and key stakeholders from across Central Province. Participants are showcasing a wide range of innovative projects aimed at solving real-world problems in sectors such as agriculture, health, ICT, renewable energy, and environmental science.
Officiating the event on behalf of Central Provincial Education Officer Mambe Miyanda Hamududu, Senior Education Standards Officer for Social Sciences, Annie Chakupalesa, emphasized the pivotal role of science and technology in driving national progress.
“From the aircraft to the internet, history has shown how science transforms the way we live and work. We must nurture disciplined, critical thinkers who will shape Zambia’s future,” Mrs. Hamududu said in her speech.
She noted that science exhibitions like the JETS Fair are critical platforms for young minds to develop curiosity, ask questions, and seek meaningful solutions — traits that form the foundation for future innovation.
Mr. Danny Musenge, a Researcher in Environment and Agriculture at the Zambia Research and Development Centre (ZRDC) and Dean of the School of Engineering at the Information and Communications University (ICU), also addressed the gathering. He urged students to see science and innovation not just as academic pursuits, but as tools for transforming Zambia.
“This fair is about creating the next generation of engineers, scientists, and entrepreneurs. The journey starts with the bold ideas you present here,” Mr. Musenge said.
He announced a series of incentives for outstanding innovations in the senior and innovation categories — including K1,000 cash prizes, full scholarships to ICU, and entry into ZRDC’s national research community. These awards are part of ZRDC’s broader initiative to encourage long-term mentorship and development of promising youth-led projects.
Mr. Musenge also commended the organizers for promoting academic excellence and positioning the JETS Fair as a catalyst for youth-led solutions to national challenges.
As the fair continues over the next few days, students will present their projects to panels of judges and fellow learners. Winners will be honored at the closing ceremony later this week.
The Central Province JETS Fair follows the successful hosting of the Northwestern Province edition and is part of a nationwide series of regional fairs aimed at identifying and nurturing Zambia’s next generation of STEM leaders.
