Zambia has not been spared by effects of climate change

CLIMATE change is one of the most hotly debated topics around the world and particularly Zambia and has taken most people by storm due to the various effects it has left. It has hit many areas and has not been dealt with.
But what really is behind the cause of climate change, if it is real? Is it the fault of human actions, natural causes or both? Climate change is the long term change in the earth’s climate, especially a change due to an increase in the average atmosphere temperatures which impacts the hydrology and biology of an area, everything including winds, temperatures that are linked, to the observed research that has been conducted.
The high effects in temperatures are as a result of the charcoal burning done in the rural areas of Zambia, is has been attributed as one of the main causes of climate change in the region and Zambia to be specific in a recent study conducted by the ministry of tourism and natural resources in injunction with the humanities forum of the united states of America.
The effects of charcoal burning that have led to climate change in Zambia, have also led to the prediction of droughts that Zambia will face this farming season, due to the increase or the fast pace at which the change is taking place in the country.
According to a report published by the Humanities Forum early this year states ”that the majority of effects of climate change will be experienced by poor and low income communities across Zambia, which have much higher vulnerability to environmental determinants of health, wealth and other factors, and much lower levels of capacity available of copying with environmental change.”
The report showed that most areas will be affected by massive droughts and not much has been done to let the people know about it.
The department of Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) under the office of the vice president, has been given the task to oversee such activities that will affect the people in these areas, but no messages relating to the prediction have been taken seriously.
While some parts of the country may have an overwhelming increase in storms and rising water, other areas maybe suffering from droughts.
As the climate warms experts predict, that conditions may increase by at least 66% which will lead to shrinking water supply and a decrease in quality agricultural conditions.
The report further said climate change will put Zambia’s food production and supply in danger and will leave the 13 million population of this country at risk from starvation.
The effects that will hit the country will be sometimes noted in a short space of time or after some spans depending on the area that has been hit.
Researcher’s conducting studies on this subject have been able to observe and measure changes happening in the country using the different temperature and weather patterns been experienced by Zambia in the last two years.
Another important research which was conducted by the world health organization has shown that
developing countries suffer 99% of casualties attributed to climate change and this has raise the question of climate justice, since least developed areas account for less than 0.5% of the emission of gars from mines and other potential climate change causes.
In Zambia there has been inadequate and policy related decisions in the area of climate change but depending on the so called big countries to do the research on our behalf, the many causes of climate change has been cited as deforestation and pollution from the mines operating within the country.
And a number of organizations such as Go Green and Zambia Environmental Agency, in the country have been organizing level meetings and presenting reports on this heated topic that has brought a lot of changes to the environment, atmosphere and weather over time now.
The burning of charcoal that leads to deforestation and climate change can only be avoided by making sure that the cutting down of plaits is reduced ,this will see the rates of climate change reducing after some time because climate change has its only factors that cannot be dealt with immediately .
Another solution is to plant trees across the country and effective land planning, introducing the people in rural areas to renewable energy resource like solar.
A source have shown that renewable energy has the technical potential to meet the needs of the people in the rural areas and this is so because it is cost effective, and creating jobs while reducing pollution from the charcoal burning.
If you own land or just have a passion to make the environment clean, then let’s make Zambia a free climate zone by planting trees, burning the waste products in the right places and minimizing pollution unnecessarily.
We all can make a contribution in any way and a challenge has been left in your hands to grip.
