Young Innovators Take the Lead at Day Two of the 2025 Central Province JETS Fair

‎Day Two of the 2025 Central Province Junior Engineers, Technicians and Scientists (JETS) Fair on 26th June continues with heightened momentum, as students from across the province showcase their skills through a variety of hands-on technical and creative challenges.

‎Participants in the Civil Engineering category, from different districts, are tasked with upgrading feeder roads an activity that involves laying pavers, constructing drainage systems, and landscaping the roadsides, offering students practical experience in infrastructure development.

‎One female participant, Ronice Ng'ambi from Chibombo Boarding School, has emphasized the importance of young women acquiring technical skills, challenging traditional gender expectations.

‎She says exposure to such fields helps her realize her potential and consider a future career in civil engineering.

‎And In the Electronics and Mechanical Engineering category, students focused on constructing windmills, applying principles of renewable energy and mechanical design. 

‎One of the participants shared his enthusiasm for being part of the event, noting the value of collaboration and innovation.

‎Meanwhile, Fashion and Fabric Technology participants also took center stage, with Vincent Simpungwe noting the need to break gender stereotypes associated with the category. 

‎He states that fashion reflects culture, and culture is rooted in diversity, a space where both men and women have a role to play.

‎Cosmetology students, also highlight how the skills they are acquiring could be turned into viable income-generating ventures, with many of them speaking positively about how the fair is equipping them for both employment and entrepreneurship.

‎Meanwhile, Vice Principal of Kabwe Skills Institute, Mr. Richard Mwale, commends the event and says the institution is honored to host and participate in this year’s fair. 

‎Mr Mwale applauded the students's efforts and notes that the quality of work displayed is impressive, in many cases, surpassing what had been seen in past years.

‎He further encouraged continued support from government and partners, extending gratitude to the National Science Centre and the Information and Communications University for their role in supporting the event and empowering learners.

‎As the fair progresses, it continues to serve not only as a platform for competition, but also as a space for inspiration, growth, and the shaping of Zambia’s next generation of innovators.
