The Digital Environment and Family Life: Global Issues to be Discussed at the World Public Assembly

The World Public Assembly will host a high-level round table titled “The Digital Environment in the Family and the Family in the Digital Environment”, addressing pressing global issues around technology’s influence on family life.

The discussion comes as families worldwide face both opportunities and challenges in the digital age—from access to information and education to risks such as online safety, digital addiction, and the erosion of face-to-face communication.

Distinguished Participants

The round table will bring together leaders and experts from multiple regions, including:

  • Ali Mubarak Ali Binhalafa Alblushi (UAE), Member of the Supreme Advisory Council of Sharjah
  • Abdurahman Naqi (UAE), President of the Emirates Writers Union in Ras Al Khaimah
  • Boemo Sekgoma (Botswana), Secretary General of SADC-PF
  • Uwimana Consolee (Rwanda), Minister of Gender Policy and Family Development
  • Her Royal Majesty Olori Ambassador (Nigeria), Deputy Organizer of Hopesalive for Africa
  • Sergey Kud-Sverchkov (Russia), cosmonaut pilot and Hero of Russia

Additional experts from Russia, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan will also present insights, covering education, cultural values, and psychological well-being.

Key Themes

  • Moderated by Diana Gurtskaya, People’s Artist of Russia, the round table will focus on:
  • Balancing parental control with understanding children’s digital interests
  • Promoting intergenerational dialogue through shared digital engagement
  • Preventing psychological dependence on technology
  • Using electronic tools to build unified family ecosystems

Gurtskaya emphasized the importance of empathy in digital parenting:

“If we don’t try to understand what our children are interested in, but only condemn their hobbies, they inevitably move away from us. All tasks, including parental control, can be handled when there is love for the child and the ability to put yourself in their place.”

Global Relevance

The session will provide practical recommendations on issues such as individual educational trajectories, moral education in virtual spaces, and fostering resilience in children and adolescents. By combining expert insights from across continents, the dialogue aims to shape strategies for strengthening family unity in a digital world.
