RDAZ, Ministry of Health Strike Landmark Agreement to Resolve Dispute

In a major breakthrough for Zambia’s healthcare sector, the Resident Doctors Association of Zambia (RDAZ) has reached a crucial agreement with the Ministry of Health, ending a tense standoff over unresolved concerns affecting resident doctors nationwide. The agreement follows a high-level meeting held Wednesday between RDAZ representatives, the Minister of Health Hon. Dr. Elijah Muchima, and senior ministry officials.
According to a statement released by RDAZ, the meeting was marked by “mutual understanding and collaboration,” resulting in the resolution of all outstanding issues. While specific details of the agreement remain under wraps, both parties emphasized their shared commitment to strengthening Zambia’s healthcare delivery system. “We are pleased that government has demonstrated goodwill and listened to the voices of frontline medical workers,” said Dr. Chileshe Mwansa, RDAZ President.
The discussions reportedly centered around critical matters such as remuneration, working conditions, and job security for resident doctors. “This is a win for the health sector and a step in the right direction toward a more resilient, people-centered health system,” Dr. Mwansa added. The Ministry of Health echoed this sentiment, with Dr. Muchima stating, “The wellbeing of our healthcare workers is paramount, and today’s outcome reflects our commitment to sustainable solutions.”
RDAZ also acknowledged the solidarity of its members throughout the negotiation process, calling for continued patience as the implementation phase begins. “Our members showed remarkable unity, and that strength has brought us here,” said Dr. Mwansa. “We ask everyone to give room for the processes to unfold as we engage further with the ministry.”
Zambians across the country welcomed the news, with many expressing hope for improved healthcare services. “This agreement gives us confidence that our doctors can work in better conditions, which directly affects the care we receive,” said Lusaka resident Charity Zulu. As the dust settles, RDAZ reiterated its unwavering commitment to advocating for medical professionals while partnering with the government to deliver quality healthcare for all.
