Zambia And China Deepen Agricultural Ties

Zambia and China have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening agricultural cooperation, with a renewed focus on technology transfer, sustainable development, and inclusive growth. This follows a high-level meeting held this afternoon at the Ministry of Agriculture, where a delegation from the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) engaged in discussions with senior Zambian officials.

The Chinese delegation, led by Mr. Chen Xun, Deputy Director of the Supervision and Evaluation Department at CIDCA, met with officials led by the Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, Mr. John Mulongoti. The talks centered on expanding existing collaborations, particularly through the ongoing development of Agricultural Technology Demonstration Centres (ATDCs) across Zambia.

“We are encouraged by the progress made so far through our collaboration,” said Mr. Mulongoti. “The integration of advanced agricultural technologies and the expansion of these projects will contribute greatly to Zambia’s goal of becoming a regional agricultural hub.”

Mr. Chen Xun reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Zambia’s agricultural transformation. He emphasized the importance of mutual learning and technology transfer, noting that CIDCA is keen on increasing investments in agro-processing, extension services, and digital farming innovations. “Our focus is on enhancing value chains and improving rural livelihoods through sustainable and inclusive practices,” said Mr. Chen.

This visit marks a new phase in the Zambia–China agricultural partnership, signaling deeper bilateral cooperation in areas critical to food security and economic development. Both sides expressed optimism about the future of their collaboration, pledging to work closely to ensure tangible benefits for local farmers and communities.
