Education Minister Praises Zambian and Zimbabwean Teachers at SDA Convention

Zambia’s Minister of Education, Douglas Syakalima, has commended teachers and education leaders from both Zambia and Zimbabwe for their unwavering commitment to nurturing future generations.

Mr. Syakalima was speaking during the Twin Teachers Convention hosted by the Seventh-Day Adventist Church at Andrews Motel in Lusaka.

The event brought together over 450 educators, school leaders, and church officials from the two countries.

Mr. Syakalima described the convention as a powerful display of dedication to education, especially in the area of vocational training.

He points the importance of such partnerships in fostering hope for a brighter future for learners across the region.

Mr. Syakalima also calls for a holistic educational approach one that balances academic excellence, spiritual growth, and hands-on skills training.

The Minister expressed appreciation to the SDA Church for its longstanding collaboration with the government, particularly in supporting education and healthcare services.

Emphasizing the significance of the government’s free education initiative, Mr. Syakalima urged stakeholders to continue leveraging this policy to increase access to learning opportunities for all children, including those previously excluded from the system.

He further acknowledged the involvement of educators from Zimbabwe, stressing the value of regional cooperation in education and the mutual benefits of shared professional experiences.

Meanwhile, Dr. Vanny Munyumbwe, President of the Southern Zambia Union Conference of the SDA Church, thanked the government for its consistent support of the Church’s development efforts.

The convention, a joint initiative of the Southern Zambia Union Conference and the Zimbabwe East Union Conference, is being held under the theme “Educating for the Here and After” and it runs from April 20 to April 27, 2025.
