2025 Central Province JETS Fair Kicks Off in Kabwe with a Celebration of Innovation and STEM Excellence

The 2025 Central Province Junior Engineers, Technicians, and Scientists (JETS) Fair officially opened on the 25th of June in Kabwe, bringing together students, educators, and stakeholders to celebrate creativity, innovation, and excellence in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

‎Held under the theme “Promoting Innovation, Engineering, and Entrepreneurship: Accelerating STEM Growth and Development,” the event features outstanding students from across Central Province showcasing scientific and technological projects designed to address real-world challenges.

‎Speaking at the official opening ceremony, Central Provincial Education Officer (PEO) Mambe Miyanda Hamududu, who was represented by Senior Education Standards Officer for Social Sciences, Annie Chakupalesa emphasized the critical role of science in everyday life and national development.

‎Mrs. Hamududu notes that groundbreaking innovations like the aircraft, light bulb, telephone, and internet have transformed how we live and work, highlighting the need for learners to engage in research and innovation early.

‎She stresses that the future lies in the hands of aspiring young scientists, and called for the development of disciplined, critical thinkers who can contribute meaningfully to Zambia’s growth.

‎Mrs. Hamududu further says science exhibitions like the JETS Fair help cultivate curiosity in young minds by encouraging them to ask questions and seek answers an essential foundation for future innovation.

‎Meanwhile, Researcher in Environment and Agriculture at the Zambia Research and Development Centre (ZRDC) and Dean of the School of Engineering at the Information and Communications University (ICU), Danny Musenge, encourages learners to see science and innovation not just as academic exercises, but as essential tools for Zambia’s development. 

‎He emphasized the importance of nurturing creative thinkers, problem-solvers, and future leaders.

‎Mr. Musenge announces a number of exciting incentives to further inspire students, including K1,000 cash prizes, full scholarships to the Information and Communications University, and admission into the ZRDC’s national research community.

‎Mr. Musenge says the country needs engineers, scientists, and entrepreneurs who are ready to create, innovate, and lead, adding that the journey begins with the bold ideas and projects the students would showcase over the coming days.

‎He also extended appreciation to the organizers of the fair, acknowledging their efforts in promoting innovation and academic excellence among Zambia’s youth.

‎The fair is set to continue over the coming days, with students presenting projects in key areas such as agriculture, renewable energy, health, environmental science, and ICT and the Winners will be recognized during the closing ceremony later this week.
