Zambia’s Livestock sectors records growth

ZAMBIA’S livestock sector has registered significant growth with pigs recording the highest population increase of over 1.4 million in the last one year.
According to the latest report released by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, the population of pigs increased to 4,481,152 in 2017 from 3,048,403 in 2016, translating into a 47 percent increase.
“In 2017, the livestock sector registered positive growth in all categories. The highest population growth was registered for pigs at 47 percent,” the report reads in part.
The poultry sub-sector was the second-best performing sector, posting 25 percent growth followed by goats at 18 percent while the population for sheep and cattle grew by 14 percent.
