Zambian Clubs Set to Benefit from FIFA Payments

Zambian clubs like Power Dynamos and Zesco United will receive payments from FIFA for releasing players to national teams during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. This decision comes after a renewed memorandum of understanding between FIFA and the European Club Association, allocating $355 million to support club football worldwide.

Clubs receive a fixed amount per player per match, similar to previous World Cup cycles where clubs were paid $10,950 per player for every day they were at the tournament.

The payment mechanism rewards clubs for releasing players to the final tournament and, in some cases, for participating in qualification phases. The influx of funds will likely boost the development of football in Zambia, enabling clubs to invest in infrastructure, talent development, and other essential areas.

This move may also attract more players to Zambian clubs, knowing that their participation in international competitions can generate revenue for their teams.
