TEMWA CHAWINGA SKIPS MALAWI CALL-UP AGAIN, OPTS FOR CHINA TRIP
Malawi women's national team star forward Temwa Chawinga has reportedly declined a national team call-up once again after failing to report to camp for this month's international friendly matches against Tanzania and Ghana.
The striker, who plays for kansascitycurrent.comā , was named in coach Lovemore Fazili's squad as part of Malawi's preparations for the upcoming Women's Africa Cup of Nations. However, reports indicate that she will not be available for selection after allegedly opting to travel to China for personal business.
According to media reports, Chawinga informed the Football Association of Malawi that her trip was related to a house construction project. Reports further suggest that Kansas City Current had released the player for the FIFA international window and was prepared to facilitate her travel to join the national team.
Her reported absence comes as a setback for Malawi's Scorchers, who are scheduled to face Tanzania and Ghana in friendly matches as part of their final preparations for the Women's Africa Cup of Nations. This is also reportedly the second time this year that Chawinga has missed a national team call-up.
