ZAMBIA SIGNS YAOUNDÉ DECLARATION ON INTERNATIONAL TAX COOPERATION
Zambia became the 36th African country to sign the Yaoundé Declaration on International Tax Cooperation, a pact designed to combat tax evasion and illicit financial flows across borders. The signing, completed in early January 2026, highlights Zambia’s commitment to transparency and regional economic collaboration.
Government officials said joining the pact will strengthen Zambia’s ability to monitor and manage cross-border financial flows, ensuring fair taxation and protecting domestic revenue. The move aligns with ongoing reforms in Zambia’s tax system and efforts to modernize revenue collection.
International tax experts note that cooperation under the declaration will allow Zambia to exchange data with other member states, improving oversight of multinational corporations and reducing opportunities for illicit financial activities.
The agreement is expected to bolster investor confidence by demonstrating Zambia’s commitment to global tax standards and fiscal responsibility. Analysts say the move could attract more foreign direct investment while safeguarding the country’s economic interests.
Zambian authorities emphasized that implementing the declaration’s measures will involve capacity building within the Zambia Revenue Authority, legislative adjustments, and continued engagement with other African nations to ensure smooth operationalization.
