Zambia Exceeds Global HIV Treatment Target

Vice President Mutale Nalumango says Zambia has surpassed the international HIV treatment target of 95 percent, reaching a treatment coverage level of 98 percent.

Ms Nalumango credited cooperating partners, including the United States Government, for their continued support towards HIV/AIDS programmes in Zambia.

She was speaking in Lusaka during the commemoration of the United States Peace Corps’ 34 years of presence in Zambia.

At the same event, United States Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Mich Coker said US-funded HIV/AIDS interventions in Zambia have contributed to increased life expectancy among beneficiaries.

Peace Corps Zambia Country Director Natalie Mensah said more than 2,600 Peace Corps volunteers are currently serving in Zambia.

The event highlighted the continued partnership between Zambia and the United States in supporting health and community development programmes.
