ZAMBIA DECLARED CHOLERA-FREE.

The Ministry of Health has officially declared the 2025–2026 cholera outbreak over after the country recorded more than four consecutive weeks without a confirmed case. The declaration marks a major milestone in Zambia’s efforts to control and eliminate the disease.

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services Dr. Kennedy Lishimpi says Zambia recorded 1,627 confirmed cholera cases and 26 deaths across 25 districts during the outbreak. He attributed the successful containment to coordinated efforts by government, health workers, local authorities, communities and cooperating partners.

Dr. Lishimpi has, however, cautioned that the risk of cholera remains and urged Zambians to continue practising good hygiene, drinking safe water and seeking early medical attention to prevent future outbreaks.
