Zambia Army’s “Mighty34” Marks 8th Anniversary with Compassionate Visit to Ailling Colleague.

The Zambia Army’s Intake 34 of 2017, known as the “Mighty34,” commemorated their eighth anniversary on Friday, October 3, 2025. With a heartfelt visit to ailing colleague Sergeant Mary Mwakapila at her home in Garden Chilulu, Lusaka.

Led by Staff Sergeant Prisca Chibale, the intake senior, the group chose to mark their milestone by showing solidarity and compassion to Sgt Mwakapila, who has been unwell for the past five years. The visit included reflections on their shared journey and a donation to support her ongoing recovery.

SSgt Chibale emphasized the importance of unity, stating, “We could not think of a better way to mark our anniversary than to be with our sister who has walked this journey with us.”

Despite being bedridden, Sgt Mwakapila welcomed her fellow soldiers with a warm smile, showcasing the resilience that has inspired her peers.

Her mother, Ms. Christine Njovu, described the visit as healing and deeply appreciated the show of support. “This act of kindness speaks volumes,” she said.

The Mighty34’s actions reflect values of compassion, empathy, and camaraderie, underscoring that military service includes standing by one another through life’s battles, not just those on the front lines.
