ZACCI Urges Strict Enforcement of Local Content Rules
The Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) says the introduction of Local Content regulations will help grow Zambia’s mining sector and strengthen local businesses.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting in Solwezi, ZACCI President Anthony Kabaghe said the policy presents an opportunity for Zambian companies to increase their participation in the economy, especially in mining.
Mr. Kabaghe encouraged local firms to improve compliance standards and competitiveness in order to benefit from the new regulations.
“We urge our local companies to raise their standards and position themselves to fully participate in the mining value chain,” he said.
He also called on regulatory authorities to strictly enforce the Statutory Instrument to prevent abuse and protect Zambian businesses.
“Effective enforcement of the Local Content provisions is key to ensuring that Zambian enterprises are not sidelined,” Mr Kabaghe said.
He explained that the regulations are designed to empower local entrepreneurs through partnerships, capacity building and increased access to supply chains.
