US Air Base in Bahrain ‘Destroyed’ in Reported Iranian Strike as Americans Urged to Leave Region

Iranian state media claims a United States air base in Bahrain was destroyed in a drone and missile attack, as Washington urges American citizens to leave several Middle Eastern countries over rising security risks.

Reports emerging on Tuesday indicate that the alleged strike targeted a US military installation in Bahrain’s Sheikh Isa region, an area hosting key American defence operations. Footage circulated by Iran’s Fars News Agency, which is affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), appeared to show rockets striking distant targets followed by large explosions and rising smoke.

“The IRGC’s drone and missile attack destroyed a US command and staff building at the air base and caused fuel tanks to explode,” Fars News Agency reported, describing what it called a successful military operation.

Iranian media further claimed the strike formed part of what it described as a response to growing regional tensions, stating that the operation demonstrated “the capability to target strategic enemy positions.”

The United States government has not yet confirmed the reported attack or provided details regarding possible damage or casualties. A US official quoted by international media said authorities were “aware of the reports and assessing the situation,” but declined to give further comment.

Earlier reports indicated smoke could be seen billowing from a US-run naval facility in Bahrain, raising fears of escalating conflict in the region.

In response to the deteriorating security situation, the US State Department issued an urgent advisory urging American citizens to immediately leave Bahrain and several other countries in the Middle East.

“American citizens should depart now via commercial means due to serious safety risks,” the State Department said in a statement.

The department added that “the security environment in parts of the Middle East remains unpredictable,” warning citizens to prioritise their safety and monitor official updates.

The advisory applies to US nationals in Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, the West Bank, Gaza, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen.

Security analysts warn that if confirmed, the reported strike could mark a significant escalation between Iran and the United States. One regional analyst told international media that “any direct attack on US military infrastructure would significantly heighten tensions and risk wider confrontation.”

International observers are closely monitoring developments as officials await confirmation from Washington regarding the reported attack, while concerns grow that the situation could further destabilise an already volatile region.
