Two American Nationals Die in Zimba Road Accident

Two American nationals, both aged 67 and identified as Richard Gill and James Mynaugh, have died in a road accident on the Great North Road in Zimba District, Southern Province.

The crash involved a Toyota Fortuner and a Hino Ranger at Sky Layby, about 10km south of Zimba town, at around 17:40 on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

According to Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo, preliminary investigations show the driver of the Hino Ranger attempted to overtake improperly while going uphill, leading to a head-on collision with the Toyota Fortuner.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged at the front.

Six other people, including both drivers and four passengers, were injured and taken to Livingstone University Teaching Hospital.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at Zimba Mission Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem, as police urge motorists to exercise caution when overtaking, especially uphill and where visibility is limited.
