Tomatoe Prices drop from K600 to K500

The price of tomatoes in Zambia has experienced a significant drop, falling from K600 per box to as low as K500. A visit to Soweto and BH markets revealed an abundance of tomatoes, with agents and traders competing for sales.

According to agents and traders at Lusaka's BH and Soweto markets, the price drop is attributed to a surge in the supply of tomatoes, which has flooded the market. This surplus has led to a decrease in demand, resulting in lower prices.

Earlier this year, in January, the demand for tomatoes was higher than the supply, causing prices to range from K6 each at the beginning of the month. However, the current influx of tomatoes has reversed this trend, leading to a significant drop in price.
