Three People Die in Separate Road Traffic Accidents in Lusaka

Three individuals have tragically lost their lives in separate road traffic accidents that occurred in Lusaka yesterday, April 26, 2025.

Assistant Police Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi confirmed that in the first incident, a fatal accident took place around 17:40 hours along Chitimukulu Road, near Matero Level One Hospital.

Mr. Chilabi explains that the accident involved 33-year-old Dickson Shambosha of Garden House Compound, who was driving a FAW light truck with registration number AJF 351.

He reveals that a pedestrian, identified as Gabriel Kamela, aged 36, of Matero, was struck by the vehicle while crossing the road, adding that he sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr. Chilabi notes that the body of the deceased has been transported to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary for a postmortem.

In a second incident, Mr. Chilabi reported that a hit-and-run accident occurred around 21:00 hours opposite Puma Filling Station along Great East Road.

An unidentified male pedestrian, aged between 25 and 30 years, was struck by a vehicle heading west. The driver, whose vehicle has not been identified, fled the scene after the collision.

Mr. Chilabi discloses that a pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the spot and that Investigations into the hit-and-run incident are currently underway.

The body has been taken to Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital mortuary for identification and postmortem.

Meanwhile, another fatal accident occurred around 20:00 hours along Kafue Road, opposite Castle Shopping Mall.

Mr. Chilabi states that 34-year-old Sianyengo Brian, from Ibex, was driving a BMW with registration number BBC 7321 when he collided with a pedestrian, Brian Phiri, aged between 35 and 40 years, from the Commercial Motors area along Kafue Road.

The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the University Teaching Hospital mortuary for a postmortem.

Mr. Chilabi urges all motorists and road users to prioritize safety and exercise caution on the roads. He reminded drivers to adhere strictly to road traffic laws and regulations to avoid further loss of life.
