Three Children drown in Lundazi Pit.

Three children have drowned in a flooded pit in the Chipembele area of Lundazi District in Eastern Province.
The incident happened around 13:40 hours yesterday when six children went swimming in a water-filled pit believed to have been created during road rehabilitation works.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed the tragedy, saying three of the children died while three others survived.
“Six children went to swim in the flooded pit, but unfortunately three of them drowned,” he said. “The other three survived because they did not jump into the water.”
Police identified the deceased as 12-year-old Wisterd Jere of Islamic Compound, 11-year-old Dalitso Tembo, and Daniel Kasaro of Topview Compound.

Mr. Mweemba said police received a report from a parent and officers, together with the fire brigade, rushed to the scene. “The bodies were later retrieved by a combined team of police and fire brigade officers,” he said.
