THE ZAMBIA POLICE SERVICE SEIZE SMUGGLED SUGAR

The Zambia Police Service Intellectual Property Unit has seized goods valued at K 126,893.60 from different points in Lusaka believed to have been used in packing smuggled sugar into Zambia Sugar Plc empty packages.
This happened two days ago after the unit conducted an operation in Lusaka's Zani muone west and city market after receiving a complaint from Zambia Sugar Plc , the legitimate holders of White Spoon Sugar that their product was being counterfeited.
Meanwhile nine suspects comprising Burundese , Congolese, and Zambian nationals have been picked up by police and are yet to be charged.
Police spokesperson Esther Katongo confirmed thieving a statement today. She said during the operation, officers raided a house in Zanimuone West and a number of wholesales at City Market were they found 1 kg, 2 kg empty packs and 378 *50 sacks labelled White Spoon Sugar for Zambia Sugar Plc which were being used to package sugar.
Katongo further said it is suspected that raw sugar is smuggled into the country from other countries and is being repacked in Zambia Sugar Plc labelled packages. She said before seizing the product, it's product was later sold in wholesale at City Market after repackaging it.she also said investigations in this matter have continued.
