Temperature Stage Play Set To Ignite The Lusaka Playhouse

LUSAKA, Zambia – Mystery Diary Creations is set to bring audiences a new theatrical experience with Temperature, a stage play written by celebrated playwright Justine Tembo and directed by theatre practitioner Emmanuel Mwanza Ukwimi. The production will premiere on 5th September at the Lusaka Playhouse.

The play tells the gripping story of George and Matata, two partners who rise from humble beginnings to build GM Enterprise, one of Zambia’s most recognized providers of protective equipment for mine workers in the 1970s. Their success, however, faces turbulence as George misuses company resources to feed his personal addictions and finance his daughter’s mysterious illness. At the same time, the closure of copper mines in Zambia threatens the company’s future, pulling the partners into conflict.

Adding another layer to the story is Stella, the company’s secretary of Zimbabwean background, whose presence deepens the intrigue and tension within the enterprise.

Temperature explores themes of greed, survival, loyalty, and the fragility of human relationships when tested by crisis.

Playwright Justine Tembo is no stranger to Zambian theatre audiences. He is best known for The Lusaka Strangler, a production that captivated audiences and earned acclaim for its raw storytelling and compelling performances. With Temperature, Tembo once again taps into history and social commentary, blending suspense with reflection on Zambia’s cultural and economic past.

The production adds to the growing momentum of Zambia’s theatre scene, which continues to use stage performance as a platform for addressing social issues while showcasing local talent.

Theatre enthusiasts can expect an evening of intense drama, strong performances, and storytelling that resonates with both historical and contemporary relevance.
