One Dead, One Injured in Kapiri Ngozi Fuel Tanker Crash
CHIRUNDU — One truck driver has died while another sustained injuries after a truck collided with a fuel tanker at Kapiri Ngozi along the Kafue-Chirundu Road.
The fatal accident involved two heavy-duty vehicles, with the driver of one of the trucks dying in the crash. The driver of the fuel tanker survived but sustained injuries and was rushed to hospital by well-wishers who responded to the scene.
According to the Chirundu Town Council Public Relations Unit, the injured tanker driver managed to escape from the wreckage before being evacuated for medical attention.
Fire and Rescue officers from Chirundu Town Council later rushed to the scene after receiving a report of the accident. The officers worked alongside the Zambia Police to secure the area and manage the emergency response.
The scene was secured to protect emergency personnel and other road users from further danger, particularly because one of the vehicles involved was carrying fuel.
The council has since expressed condolences to the family of the deceased driver and wished the injured tanker driver a speedy recovery.
It has also appealed to motorists and other road users to exercise extreme caution and strictly observe traffic regulations.
Kapiri Ngozi has previously been identified as an accident-prone section of the Kafue-Chirundu road. The Road Transport and Safety Agency has reported that road signs and road markings were installed in the area following a road-safety inspection aimed at improving visibility and warning motorists.
The cause of the latest collision and the identities of the drivers had not been established in the information available at the time of reporting.
The accident has once again highlighted the need for motorists, particularly those operating heavy vehicles and transporting hazardous materials, to exercise heightened caution on the Chirundu route
