NELLY MUTTI ELECTED VICE PRESIDENT OF IPU EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Zambia’s Speaker of the National Assembly, Nelly Mutti, has been elected Vice President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Executive Committee, representing the Africa Geopolitical Group.
The announcement was made during the 147th IPU Assembly held in Luanda, Angola.
In her new role, Mutti underscored the importance of strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation and promoting parliamentary diplomacy. She pledged to advocate for increased political participation of women, as well as the rights of marginalized groups such as youth and persons with disabilities.
“Peace and security are the foundation of development,” Mutti emphasized, echoing the IPU’s theme for the assembly: “Parliamentary action for peace, justice and strong institutions (SDG 16).”
Her election marks a significant step in amplifying Africa’s voice on the global parliamentary stage, as she commits to promoting inclusivity and sustainable development through legislative collaboration.
