Ministry Of Education Unveils New Wing At Shifwankula Secondary School In Chibombo District.

Ministry of Education, under the leadership of Douglas Syakalima, Member of Parliament, officially inaugurated the new wing at Shifwankula Secondary School on February 17, 2025.
Speaking at the event, Mr Syakalima emphasized the government's dedication to education, calling it a fundamental human right and a priority that is key to national development.
The event was attended by key dignitaries, including the Provincial Minister of Central Province, Her Royal Highness Chieftainess Mungule, and representatives from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which partnered with the Ministry to complete the project.
In his speech, Mr Syakalima pointed out the transformative potential of free education, which was one of the United Party for National Development's (UPND) major campaign promises.
He explained that this initiative has led to a significant increase in student enrollment, particularly among those who could not previously afford schooling.
Mr Syakalima also recognized the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for its significant contribution, marking the completion of Shifwankula’s new wing as part of an ongoing partnership.
He noted that the Church has supported 18 infrastructure projects in various districts, with Shifwankula being the 19th, and that the collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in 2024, will continue to play a crucial role in enhancing Zambia's educational infrastructure.
As student enrollment continues to rise, Mr Syakalima stressed the urgent need for further investment in secondary school infrastructure, particularly for forms 1 through 4 and advanced levels, while also urging the community to take responsibility for the upkeep of the new facilities and protect them from vandalism.
Mr Syakalima stated that the new wing at Shifwankula Secondary School, designed to improve the learning environment and accommodate the growing student population, is an important step in Zambia’s efforts to create a more equitable and productive society through education.
