Ministry Backs Bars as Cultural Hubs in “Cheers to Bars” Campaign

The Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Arts has rallied industry leaders, artists, and communities to embrace bars as cultural and social hubs that can drive growth, unity, and creativity.

Permanent Secretary for Arts Chama Fumba, in a speech delivered on his behalf by Director of Arts Angela Chadukwa, said bars play an important role beyond serving drinks. He described them as vibrant spaces where music thrives, sports bring people together, and small businesses find opportunity.

“Bars are not just places to drink. They are community hubs where culture is celebrated, local talent is showcased, and livelihoods are supported,” Mr. Fumba said.

He was speaking at Zambia Breweries’ “Cheers to Bars” campaign, held to celebrate 50 years of the iconic Mosi Lager. He stressed that through such initiatives, government seeks to promote responsible drinking, empower youth, and strengthen social cohesion.

Zambia Breweries Country Director Thais Cavinatto echoed this vision, pledging the company’s commitment to job creation and the promotion of responsible alcohol consumption nationwide.

At the same event, Bars and Night Clubs Owners Association President, Peter Mwale, urged members to align with government regulations to ensure safe, supportive, and well-managed nightlife environments.

The“Cheers to Bars” campaign reflects ongoing efforts to position bars as spaces of culture, entertainment, and entrepreneurship while reinforcing the value of responsible social drinking.
