Man Who Rents Out AK47 To Robbers, Arrested

A 29-year-old man, Anthony Agbozo has been arrested for allegedly stealing an AK 47 assault rifle from a duty police officer and renting it out to supposed criminals.

The suspect, who is believed to be operating around Pokuase in the Greater Accra Region, has been grabbed by the Amasaman District police.

According to reports, Agbodzo allegedly collects various amounts of money from his clients, usually armed robbers and the money paid to him for the rented gun depended upon the number of days the gun will be in use.

The police picked him up from his Pokuase home on Monday, November 30, 2015 upon a tip-off.

DSP Elvis Bawa Sadongo, Amasaman District Police Commander, who confirmed the story to newsmen, said on June 25, 2015, a police officer (name withheld) reported to the Amasaman police that somebody broke into his house and stole his AK 47 rifle while he was asleep.

Police investigations revealed that the rifle was stolen from the police officer while he was on duty.

Meanwhile, the said police officer is currently standing trial at the law court for losing the weapon.

According to DSP Elvis Bawa Sadongo, while the matter was still under investigations, police had a tip-off that Agbozo had in his possession an AK 47 which he had hidden inside his room and renting it out to people.

He was subsequently apprehended and upon interrogation, claimed he stole the gun from a police officer on duty.

Agbozo told the police that he often rented the gun to some of his friends for their use.

The suspect will soon be sent to court for prosecution.
