Macky 2 Surprises Fans With Tribute Song To Slapdee After Years Of Rivalry

Zambian hip-hop circles are buzzing after Macky 2, the King of Kopala Swag music, released a new track titled Dear Slapdee a heartfelt tribute to his longtime rival-turned-brother, Slapdee, the King of XYZ.

The release came through Macky 2’s official Facebook page, accompanied by a moving letter reflecting on their journey from fierce rivals in the early 2010s to respected pioneers of Zambian hip-hop today.

In the post, Macky 2 looked back at a time when competition between Kopala Swag and XYZ was at its peak, fueling Zambia’s hip-hop culture and shaping the industry as fans know it today. What began as battles and division eventually evolved into mutual respect and unity.

“We didn’t just make music.. we built foundations. We turned competition into culture. And somewhere along the way, rivalry turned into respect. Respect turned into brotherhood. That’s not just growth.. that’s legacy,” Macky 2 shared.

The song, produced by DJ Bugar and LALO, with mixing and mastering by Evamore Sounds, captures not just nostalgia but also the weight of responsibility that comes with being a pioneer. Macky 2 stresses that while the hunger of their youth may have changed, their duty to preserve and guide Zambian music culture remains strong.

For many fans, Dear Slapdee is more than just a song. It’s a cultural moment. Fifteen years ago, few would have imagined Macky 2 dedicating a track to Slapdee, two giants who once defined Zambia’s biggest music rivalry. Today, it stands as a symbol of growth, legacy, and the unifying power of music.

With this release, Macky 2 and Slapdee’s story has come full circle, reminding the new generation of artists and fans that competition may spark a movement, but respect and unity build a legacy.
