Lusaka Woman Seeks Divorce After Discovering Husband Has Four Children with Different Women

A 34-year-old woman of Kabanana Compound in Lusaka has petitioned the Matero Local Court for divorce, citing dishonesty and infidelity after discovering that her husband has four children with different women.

Vastina Tembo told the court that she married Gibson Mweetwa, 36, of Barlastone Farms in December 2024. She said their marriage initially appeared happy and stable, but she later discovered that her husband had previously been married and had a child — despite allegedly assuring her that she was the only woman he had ever been with.

Tembo told the court that although she forgave him after learning about his first child, she was later shocked to discover that he had fathered additional children with other women, bringing the total number of children outside their marriage to four.

She further alleged that her husband continued maintaining relationships with some of the mothers of his children, which has caused ongoing conflict in their marriage.

“I don’t want him anymore. We have been having challenge after challenge, and it is now affecting my mental health. I am in school and I want to be at peace,” Tembo told the court.

In his defence, Mweetwa said he did not see major problems in their marriage and expressed his desire to reconcile. He asked the court to grant him time to resolve their differences and rebuild the relationship.

The couple shares a nine-month-old child together, while Tembo also has a child from a previous relationship.

Magistrate Lewis Mumba adjourned the matter to 20 February to allow the couple an opportunity for possible reconciliation.
