Lusaka City Council demolishes nine illegal structures along Lumumba Road and Katondo Street

The exercise forms part of the Council’s resolve to promote orderliness and ensure that public spaces are used for their intended purposes.

Lumumba Road and Katondo Street are among the areas where maintaining orderly trading activities and keeping public spaces accessible are important for the smooth movement of pedestrians and other road users.

Illegal structures and unauthorised trading activities can obstruct pedestrian walkways, affect access to business premises and contribute to congestion in busy parts of the city.

The removal of illegal structures is also part of broader efforts by local authorities to promote a clean and organised urban environment. Proper use of public spaces helps improve accessibility for residents, traders and visitors while supporting the orderly conduct of business activities.

The Council’s efforts are aimed at ensuring that streets and other public areas remain accessible and are not occupied by structures erected without the necessary authorisation.

Residents and traders are encouraged to comply with Council regulations governing street vending, trading spaces and the erection of structures to help maintain order in the city.

The Council said it remains committed to maintaining a clean, orderly and well-organised city through the enforcement of regulations against street vending and illegal structures.
