LIVINGSTONE MAYOR ACQUITTED ON CORRUPTION CHARGE.

Livingstone Mayor Constance Nalishebo Muleabai has been acquitted by the Livingstone Magistrates’ Court on two counts of corrupt practices involving public funds.

The court heard that between August and September 2023, Mayor Muleabai was alleged to have solicited K120,000 and received K180,000 from businessman Mark Gabites in connection with a request to cancel property rates owed to the Livingstone City Council by Zamnuka Farming Limited.

During the trial, the State presented evidence claiming the payments were meant to induce preferential treatment, while the Mayor denied the allegations and maintained that she did not engage in any wrongdoing.

In delivering judgment today, Senior Resident Magistrate Trevor Kasanda cleared Mayor Muleabai on both counts, stating that the prosecution had failed to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.
