Latin America Sets Participation Record in Fifth Edition of Egypt’s Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership

Latin American participation in the fifth edition of the Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership has reached unprecedented levels, marking the largest turnout from the region since the program’s inception. Forty-two young men and women from 14 Latin American countries applied for the prestigious fellowship, reflecting growing international recognition of Egypt’s role in empowering young leaders from the Global South.

According to anthropological researcher and founder of the Nasser International Forum, Mr. Hassan Ghazaly, the surge in Latin American interest is a testament to the fellowship’s rising global profile. “Participants from 11 of the 14 applicant countries have been selected after rigorous evaluation, highlighting the ambition, competence, and engagement of youth from the continent,” he said.

Ghazaly emphasized that Latin America’s growing involvement signifies a qualitative shift for the fellowship. “This adds cultural and geographic richness to the program and positions Egypt as a regional and global hub for youth leadership development,” he noted.

The fifth edition, scheduled to take place later this May under the theme "Egypt and the United Nations: 80 Years Representing the Issues of the Global South", will be held under the patronage of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. The program will host around 150 young leaders from various countries with diverse executive roles and strong community engagement records.

Ghazaly concluded by reiterating that this milestone in Latin American participation reflects a wider appreciation for Egypt’s youth diplomacy and commitment to sustainable development, and is expected to promote solidarity and cooperation among Global South nations.
