Kabwe Police Arrest 30-Year-Old Ex-Convict for the Murder and Rape of Three Women

A 30-year-old ex-convict has been arrested by police in Kabwe in connection with the murder of three women and the attack of an unidentified male victim in the Mukobeko area.

Central Province Police Commissioner Charity Munganga has confirmed that the suspect, Mwila Sampa who was released from Mukobeko Medium Correctional Facility on February 17, 2025, was initially apprehended on April 8 after being found in possession of a laptop bag identified as belonging to one of the deceased victims.

Ms. Munganga explains that, upon further investigation, the suspect confessed to raping and murdering the three women.

she said the victims have been identified as Agnes Mambwe, aged 65, of Mukobeko Correctional Services Camp; Emelda Banda, aged 51, of Maipambe area; and Joyce Matabula, aged 44, also of Maipambe area.

Ms. Munganga detailed that Agnes Mambwe was reported missing on March 20 and was later found dead behind Mukobeko Maximum Prison on April 9, adding that Emelda Banda went missing on March 28 and was found dead near Waterworks in Mukobeko on March 31 and that Joyce Matabula’s body was discovered in Maipambe on April 4.

Ms. Munganga also reveals that the suspect is believed to have attacked an unidentified male victim and robbed him of a mobile phone. The victim survived the attack.

She adds that police officers recovered some of the stolen property from the residence of the suspect’s grandmother in Makululu Compound.

Ms. Munganga further states that investigations are ongoing and appealed to any members of the public who may have been attacked by Mwila Sampa to report to the nearest police station in Kabwe.
