Islamists kill dozens in Kenya

More than 48 people have died after al-Qaeda linked militants attacked hotels and a police station in Kenya.
According to witnesses in Mpeketoni,gun battles lasted several hours as several buildings were set ablaze.The town is on the mainland near Lamu island,a well-known tourist hub on the Indian ocean coastline.
Somalia's al-Shabab has claimed responsibility,saying the attack was carried out to avenge the presence of Kenyan troops in Somalia and the killing of Muslims.
The BBC's Anne Soy reports that gunmen were on rampage,shooting anyone who was unable to recite verses from the Qoran.
Kenya has continued to experience deadly attacks from al-Shabab,the recent being the September Westgate Mall shooting.
